What You Get

The wiring insurers ask about.

Insurance companies have grown far less patient with knob-and-tube and aluminum wiring, and a lot of homeowners find out during a renewal rather than a renovation. Both are workable problems. What matters is that the replacement is done properly, documented, and inspected, so the paperwork holds up when your insurer asks for it.

  • Knob-and-tube identification and full replacement
  • Aluminum wiring remediation and approved connection methods
  • Aluminum wiring insurance inspections and documentation
  • Rewiring coordinated with renovations while walls are open
  • Panel work where old wiring and an old panel arrived together
  • Permit pulled and inspection handled directly

Three eras of house wiring: knob and tube, aluminum, and modern cable
The Process

Found, scoped, replaced, documented.

STEP 1

Identify

We open devices and check what is actually in the walls, because houses are often a mix of eras rather than one.

STEP 2

Scope

You get a clear picture of what needs replacing now, what can wait, and what your insurer will want to see.

STEP 3

Replace

Permit pulled, old wiring removed or remediated, new circuits run to current code.

STEP 4

Document

Inspection passed and the paperwork in your hands, which is the part insurers actually want.

FAQ

Older wiring questions

It is most common in homes built before about 1950. The giveaways are ceramic knobs and tubes visible in an unfinished basement or attic, cloth covered wire, and two prong outlets with no ground. The only reliable answer comes from opening devices and looking, which we do as part of an inspection.

Aluminum wiring is not automatically unsafe, but it expands and contracts more than copper, which can loosen connections over time and create heat at outlets and switches. The accepted fix is remediating the connections with approved methods or replacing the runs, rather than leaving it untouched.

Many insurers now ask about knob-and-tube and aluminum wiring at renewal, and some will refuse coverage or require remediation within a set period. We do the inspection and provide documentation of the work so you have something concrete to give them.

Not always. How much opening is needed depends on the layout, the attic and basement access, and how much of the old wiring is being replaced. We walk the house first and tell you honestly what the disruption looks like before you commit.
